EMQX architecture: an MQTT publisher and subscriber connect to listeners on ports 1883, 8883 and WebSocket; each client passes access control, then the broker core routes messages, keeps sessions and retained messages and persists them to durable storage; the rule engine filters and transforms messages with SQL and runs actions that write to a cloud message bus and a database; Prometheus scrapes metrics.
